Tom Swirles
Tom is a multidisciplinary musician and sound designer based in the Northwest of England and hailing from Leicestershire. Drumming is his specialism, having been at the heart of his musical development since the age of 7 and leading him to garner experience ranging from local gigs to session recordings, cover and function performances, stage work and drum tutoring over the years. His earliest inspirational figures were his grandad and older brother (both of whom accomplished drummers in their own respective fields), later to be joined by a plethora of tutors and creative acquaintances down the line. With regards to genre, Tom is well versed in the technicalities of alt/prog rock, ambient, hardcore, and funk drumming, and also draws stylistic influence from his personal music library in equal measure. Current artist favourites include Modern Color, Mathieu Fiset, Casiopea and Pinegrove.
Presently, Tom is working to further immerse himself within the music industry whilst finalising studies in the University of Salford’s Popular Music and Recording course. Current projects include his work with Finn Bo George on their album ‘From Outer Space’, alongside ‘Sietch’; a progressive rock project based in Manchester, and ‘Topsoil’; a group evoking the sound of contemporary alt-country and indie-folk. University has presented Tom with the opportunity to explore additional career paths which has led to him build skills as a film and game audio designer, with a developing portfolio in the works. He continues looking ahead toward forthcoming shows and releases, whilst maintaining an open attitude towards new opportunities wherever they may arise.
